How to prepare a WooCommerce product CSV for Shopify

Content and sources reviewed:

CatalogHandoff can check and convert a WooCommerce core product export in your browser without a Shopify account. It identifies supported field and variant issues before import, creates Shopify product CSV files and a row-level report, and handles product data only. You still need a Shopify store for the final import.

What should you export from WooCommerce?

Use the built-in product exporter and retain the fields you need to review. CatalogHandoff accepts one CSV up to 25 MB and 50,000 data rows. It supports simple, variable, and supported variation rows. Grouped, external, virtual, downloadable, subscription, booking, bundle, composite, and gift-card products are not supported by this converter.

How does local CSV preparation work?

  1. Export a UTF-8 product CSV from WooCommerce.
  2. Open the converter and choose the file. No Shopify account is required, and the file stays in the browser.
  3. Review blocking errors, warnings, skipped fields, and the Shopify preview.
  4. Fix blocking values in the source export, then convert the corrected file again.
  5. Download the Shopify CSV and conversion report only when the result is ready.

What if Shopify's migration app is available?

Shopify also offers a Store Migration app. If it appears in your Shopify admin and you want to import an unchanged WooCommerce product export directly, it may be the simpler option. CatalogHandoff is for local CSV preparation and pre-import review, including before you have a Shopify account.

What does a simple example become?

WooCommerce input: Name is "Canvas Tote", SKU is "TOTE-01", and Regular price is "24.00".

Shopify output: Title is "Canvas Tote", SKU remains "TOTE-01", and Price is "24.00". A stable URL handle is generated and validated.

What must still be checked?

The converter does not infer store-specific tax classes, shipping classes, categories, collections, product types, or media-library filenames. It never checks whether an image URL is reachable. Read the report before importing, and test the Shopify import on a controlled catalog first.
